Urgent RIM
BlackBerry Daylight Savings Update...
A
crucial BlackBerry operating
system upgrade has been released that all our users should consider installing before March, 2007. With
the new energy laws going into effect this year, Daylight Savings Time (DST) is
now starting earlier and ending later. That means DST now starts on the second
Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. Previously it
began on the first Sunday in April and ended on the last Sunday in
October.
The
problem is that after the DST dates change in March 2007, BlackBerry®
devices can't update their clocks for the affected time zones
correctly without a software update. What's more, your BlackBerry device might not display correct
time zone information for certain time periods during the year, and that may cause you to sync incorrect data to your Mac. You could be one hour early or late for your appointments.
In other
words, it will be a minor mess unless the update provided directly from
RIM is applied. For more information about this update directly from RIM,
please click
here. Therefore...
...working with RIM, we wanted to email you to let you know about this
crucial upgrade and give you the instructions and setup information you'll
need to get it on your BlackBerry device. Before we provide the link,
please read over the following instructions carefully to make sure you
have everything you need to properly complete the upgrade.
Here are some important questions and answers...
What are the system
requirements needed for this upgrade?
-
PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.0 (currently available from RIM by clicking here.)
-
BlackBerry handheld with BlackBerry OS 4.0 and USB cable
-
Wireless data coverage from your service provider
This
patch is required to be installed on ALL BlackBerry handheld devices. In addition, wireless coverage is needed from RIM to
complete the DST patch successfully. After installing the patch from
PocketMac for BlackBerry, the patch will use your wireless service to download the necessary files from RIM to
your handheld. This process takes under 5 minutes. If your device is used
with a corporate environment or BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server), your
IT department should install this patch for you. The patch can be
installed from your BES Administrator. One more item needed as a
pre-requisite...
How can I determine if I have version 4.0 of the BlackBerry operating system?
First, from the handheld, navigate to 'Options', then 'About' menu.
Then on the About screen you will see the BlackBerry device specifics. The
OS version should be represented by v4.x.x.xx. If your system is not version 4, you will need access to a Windows PC to install the upgrade. If that occurs, you should also plan to complete the DST patch to make best use of your time. OK...
...now that your BlackBerry OS 4.0 version is out of the
way, here's how to install the update...
