I was able to upload my entire calendar back into iCal, after thinking that it was possible that I may have to gather and enter all that information (appointments, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) again. It was so easy and simple, I just reinstalled the program on my new hard drive, plugged in my phone, and everything synced back up flawlessly... not to mention my Address Book as well.
